2017 Autumn II Term

What a super half-term Year 4 have had. We started this with a beautiful All Saints Day Mass, which Year 5 led to help us celebrate this important feast day. We also had a special RE day, focusing on the Sikh religion and did some amazing research about the Gurus. Year 4 led a special assembly for the whole school and parents on our RE topic story - Jonah and the Whale. Our class novel this half-term was 'Short and Spooky'. We have all enjoyed reading lots of short spooky stories and developing our own spooky stories. Year 4 writing is really developing well! Our school held the council elections this half-term and we were very proud that we had nearly every child in Year 4 applied to take part. Well done to those that were elected!

This term we have been learning about ancient Egypt. We have found out about the geography of Egypt and the importance of the River Nile. We have looked at timelines for the period and learnt about the mummification process. We enjoyed our visit to Leeds City Museum for a workshop all about this historical time.

We had a wonderful start to Advent. The children have made their own Christmas tree decorations for the tree in the hall. Year 4 joined with Year 3 for our Advent assembly for the rest of the school and parents. We told the story of both Mary and Joseph's experiences in the Nativity. We also took part in the amazing Christingle service with the rest of the school in church. Our oranges looked great and we enjoyed learning about all the symbols in the Christingle. We now look forward to a restful Christmas holidays, enjoyed with our family and friends at home.

2017 Autumn I Term

What a great start to Year 4 all the children in the class have made. We had a wonderful Roald Dahl Day, where we learnt about his famous novels. We started the school year wonderfully for everyone in church with our welcome Mass. We have also enjoyed learning about the Jewish Festival of Sukkot. The 4th October is always important to our school - when we celebrate the Feast Day of our Saint - St. Francis of Assisi. We celebrated Mass in church, learnt a lot about his life and enjoyed buns and juice in the afternoon! We have all learnt lots from the church tour Fr. Michael gave our class, focusing on the sacraments.

This term we have been learning about ancient Egypt. We have found out about the geography of Egypt and the importance of the River Nile. We have looked at timelines for the period and learnt about the mummification process. We have learnt lots about the times by reading our class novel, 'Ma'at's Feather' and writing our own historical stories. We look forward to learning more about this period next half-term and visiting Leeds City Museum for a workshop all about this historical time.

We also had a super Geography themed week in school, particularly focusing on our class topic of rivers. We enjoyed the food and flag day - making flags from the countries we are from and sharing food.
