Summer I Term 2019

We all cannot believe it is the summer term in Year 4 already!

As we came back to school after the holidays we had a very important week in school - Holy Week in lead up to Easter. With Year 3, we performed an outstanding production on Maundy Thursday for parents and the rest of the school. We also made Easter cards and baskets to celebrate Easter. We had a lovely long weekend off school at home to celebrate with our families.

This term we have been learning about the Vikings period. We have found out about the geography of Europe and the movement of the Vikings to invade and settle. We have looked at timelines for the period and learnt about Viking life. We are looking forward to our visit to Danelaw at Murton Park, to live as Vikings for the day and learning more about this period next half-term.

Spring II Term 2019

What another lovely half-term we have had, the children in Year 4 are really working so hard and their behaviour is outstanding! As we came back to school after the half-term break we have had an important focus on Lent. Throughout these weeks we have been focusing on prayer, fasting and giving. We have learnt lots from Fr. Timothy with our frequent Masses in church. We made over £100 for Catholic Care with our Good Shepherd fundraising in the hall.

We have really enjoyed all the events that have contributed to our Cash for Kids competition - thank you again to everyone for their help with raising so much.

This term we have been continuing to learn about the Tudor period. We have found out more about the Tudor royals, with a particular focus on Henry VIII and his six wives. We have developed our art and DT skills by creating our own Tudor roses and sewing our own Tudor purses.

In the second week of term, after the holidays, we will have the most important week coming - Holy Week in lead up to Easter. With Year 3, we have already been practising for our production on Maundy Thursday for parents and the rest of the school. We hope everyone can make it to be in the audience on Tuesday 16th April.

What a super half-term Year 4 have had. We started this with a beautiful class Mass in church, which we shared with the baptism of a baby girl. We have had a special RE day, focusing on the Sikh religion and did some amazing research about the Gurus. Year 4 led a special assembly for the whole school and parents on our RE topic story - Jonah and the Whale. Our class novel this half-term was 'Short and Spooky'. We have all enjoyed reading lots of short spooky stories and developing our own spooky stories. Year 4 writing is really developing well! Our school held the council elections this half-term and we were very proud of all the children in Year 4 that applied to take part. Well done to those that were elected!

We had a wonderful start to Advent. The children have made their own Christmas tree decorations for the tree in the hall. Year 4 joined with Year 3 for our Advent assembly for the rest of the school and parents. We told the story of both Mary and Joseph's experiences in the Nativity. We also took part in the amazing Christingle service with the rest of the school in church. Our oranges looked great and we enjoyed learning about all the symbols in the Christingle. We now look forward to a restful Christmas holidays, enjoyed with our family and friends at home.
